Ebay Can Go Jump

I’m astounded.

Usually stupidity doesn’t surprise me. People are capable of making incredible dumb decisions, I know. But this one is impressively idiotic.

eBay Australia has decided to limit payment options to PayPal and Pay on Pickup. If you offer Pay on Pickup, you must offer PayPal as well.

If this was all about buyer safety and care for customers, I wouldn’t have much of a problem. I’d be irritated, but philosophical.

This has nothing to do with buyer safety.

This has to do with income.

eBay’s income.

eBay owns PayPal.

eBay charges sellers a listing fee, plus a percentage-of-sale fee.

PayPal charges a percentage for each transaction – between 1.1 and 2.4%, according to The Australian.

Every time I sell something on eBay, I’ll be smacked by three charges from the same bloody company. That goes beyond ‘gouging’ straight towards ‘arrogant’, ‘moronic’ and ‘unethical’.

Oh well. As I said in an earlier post, I’m keeping an eye out for alternatives. OZtion seems to be shaping up nicely, although I have no idea what their selling fees or payment policies are like.

  1. I know of one or two ebay stores that moved to oztion cos the fees were less and they seem to be doing ok there.

So I can’t pay for my purchases by direct deposit anymore?

  2. Not after June of this year. Grrr.

  3. I’ve been finding ebay more and more difficult to deal with over the last 12 months. This has to be the last straw. I don’t mind using paypal for overseas purchases but local – I’d rather pay by direct deposit.

  4. I always use direct deposit. I guess I won’t be using ebay anymore then

  5. *sigh* I used to lay ebay. Now I’m finding more and more issues with it.

  6. I hope that the bottom falls out of their finances, what with everyone leaving them *evil grin*

  7. I used to use direct deposit but I’ll be going elsewhere now.

  8. I used to love ebay, but I’ve been having problems with it lately. I’ve also had huge problems with Paypal: to the point where I now refuse point-blank to use it. Therefore, no more ebay for me! Problems solved. A pox on ebay.

  9. I’m planning an article on ebay alternatives… only problem is, I really need to buy at least one item on each site, or at least bid! Hmm… could get pricey, if fun… 😛

  10. I saw in the paper today that the ACCC is investigating Ebay and instantly thought of you.

Ebay now = Naomi in my world 😀

  11. LOL

    Thanks, Marita… I think! 😀
